墨门 is founded; mohist.org goes live

A secular community of Mozi's followers is founded today. The site offers the full Mozi, the ten doctrines, the Handbook, and the weekly reading, all free.

Today 墨门 / The Mohist Community is formally founded, and mohist.org goes live with it.

墨门 is a secular philosophical community whose members are called Mohists. We read the Mozi, practice his ten doctrines (impartial care, against aggression, promoting the worthy, shared standards, moderation in use, simplicity in burial, the standard above, acting as if watched, against extravagance, against fatalism), and test everything we do with the three tests. We are not a religion, not a political party, with no paid leaders.

The site offers:

  • The full text of the Mozi, in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, and English side by side, in the traditional seventy-one-chapter numbering, with numbered paragraphs you can cite. The English combines Y. P. Mei's public-domain translation with community translation, revised continuously.
  • The ten doctrines, one page each with quotation, affirmation, explanation, and concrete practice in 墨门.
  • The Handbook (墨者之法), fifteen chapters on organizing chapters, filling assignments, keeping open books, electing the 鉅子, and amending the rules.
  • The weekly reading (每周一篇), the 2027 schedule and weekly guides, beginning 4 January and covering the whole book in a year.
  • History, a life of Mozi, the 鉅子, and frequently asked questions.

Everything is free, permanently public, and requires no account.

What comes next

Our work through the end of the year is three things: finish revising the English translation of the Mozi, found the first chapters, and recruit the first 非攻 Corps. If your city has no chapter yet, you can start one under chapter 5 of the Handbook. Three people, a fixed time, and a place to sit are enough.

Twenty-four centuries ago Mozi said, "Nothing is more valuable than doing right." Starting today, we do it one hour a week.
